Billy Almaguer and Family
In my own life, I have discovered that spiritual change can be just one invite away. I am a product of an invite to church. Throughout my life, I have strived to find meaningful relationships, a greater purpose, and ultimately, the answer to the question of ‘why am I here?’ Like others before me, I found that answer. That answer was rooted in Jesus Christ. Before knowing Christ, I looked for other things to fulfill my life: I pursued achievement, I followed a status, and I even sought fulfillment in relationships, but I discovered that none of these things filled the void in my life.
The summer of my 6th-grade year changed my life forever.
A seed was planted after being invited to summer camp, where I heard the life-changing message of Jesus Christ. As I continued my life, I decided to look to the world to fulfill me, though I often recalled that moment at camp. After years of pursuing life independently, God finally got a hold of me. In September 1998, I moved to Lubbock, Texas, to pursue my M.S. in Civil Engineering and eventually returned to a church I had visited because of an invite. In December 1999, I was saved and later baptized. I had finally found the answer to the void in my life and began to engage in the local church. As I reflect on what God has done in my life, I realize that I am stepping out in faith to launch Awaken City Church because of a simple invite. I am a product of an invite.
So why are we doing this?
I believe God has called us to spark a movement of people who believe the Gospel can change anyone’s life. A movement that encourages people to invite those close to them but far from God to a church experience and, ultimately, to an awakening in their lives. We believe in partnering with the local church to reach and equip followers of Christ to have a more intimate relationship with God, share their testimony, and invite others to be a part of the Jesus community.
An invite can change everything! Therefore, we invite you to partner with us through prayer and financial support as we step out in faith to pursue God’s call on our lives and reach the St. Augustine area with the Gospel.
